Enabling Climate Adaptation with Localized Data

We implement targeted initiatives addressing critical gaps preventing climate intelligence from empowering vulnerable communities, starting with agriculture.

The TomorrowNow Innovation Sandbox

We provide a testbed for demonstrating & accelerating the adoption of next-generation weather & climate services
for food security applications.

Through partnership and philanthropy, we are currently making foundational investments to enhance value, accelerate uptake and ensure sustainability of strategic Weather & Climate Data (WCD) Services for food security applications through:

  • Our Global Access Platform (IP) to test the value of next-generation tech
  • Enabling access to improved weather data through the following use cases; space radars, seasonal forecasts, advisory around seed variety, planting window, and pest & disease management
  • Enhancing the accuracy and precision of regional weather data by supporting validation and calibration activities, including the deployment of specialized weather equipment to improve forecasting in East Africa for food security applications and scientific research

Achievements

  • Created Africa’s first localized weather “super region” with historical and forecast datasets for East Africa
  • 40% efficiency gain in crop variety analysis over traditional climate data tools by partners like CGIAR

Weather Data Access at Scale

We enable market creation for agri-weather services, and to operationalize the dissemination of weather information to last mile farming communities for sustained scale by:

  • Capacitating National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) to deliver high quality agriweather advisories via public SMS services
  • Building partnerships to develop public good assets and sustain agri-weather services at scale

Achievements

  • Reached 900,000+ Kenyan farmers with SMS-based crop and livestock management advisories in partnership with organizations like KALRO
