As we reflect on our journey so far, TomorrowNow is delighted to share some of our favorite moments from the first quarter of the year 2024.

Africa – At TomorrowNow.org, we are a strategic enabler of next generation weather and climate technologies in Africa – through partnerships, we catalyse awareness and utilization of high quality weather data leading to more integrated processes from early warning to risk analysis targeting various applications within food security and climate action.

We have made great strides in the first quarter of the year by unlocking new partnerships and sustaining the collaborations that we’ve built over the years.

With your support and partnership, we’ve increased the number of smallholder farmers accessing weather intelligence from 1 million at the end of 2023 to 3.8 million within the first 5 months of this year. Congratulations to our public and private partners – the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and Tomorrow.io, for this impressive milestone.

We have also taken an extra step to build a breakthrough Global Access Platform (GAP) & Gold Standard & Validation Network (GSVN) that will enable the efficient and affordable access to weather and climate data for food security and climate resilience applications.

By providing the backbone of localized weather and climate data, we are helping various stakeholders, particularly National Agricultural Research and Extension Services (NARES), better serve their users and ensure lasting impact at the community level.

These efforts are in line with our collective North Star to reach 6 million farmers by 2024, 20 million farmers in the next 3 years, and, ultimately, 100 million farmers across Africa by 2030.

TomorrowNow is a trailblazer in operationalizing next-generation weather intelligence in Africa and has been pivotal in empowering communities at the frontlines of climate change.

As we invite you to help us enable the efficient & affordable access to weather & climate data for agriculture research organizations and smallholder farmers, we’d like to share some key highlights from the first quarter of the year 2024:

Leveraging Strategic Partnerships to Drive the Adoption and Usability of Transformative Weather Solutions

EXCITED to share that we have formalized partnerships with Tomorrow.io, TAHMO, Farm Star and Salient as part of our commitment to improve the quality & accessibility of weather data for various food security applications, and deployed high tech weather instruments to further improve the accuracy of existing datasets for climate resilience.

Promoted access to quality rainfall data leveraging laser disdrometer technology

With backing from Gates Foundation, TomorrowNow & partners installed 5 laser rain gauges to support current efforts for improving access to high-resolution rainfall data across different sites with varying agro ecological zones in Kenya and Rwanda.

Read the full PRESS RELEASE to learn more about why the laser disdrometers will enable space-based technologies and transform rainfall forecasting in East Africa.

“The laser disdrometer from TomorrowNow and partners is going to benefit our current agronomic research programs and help us better support communities that neighbour the university to adapt to the worsening effects of climate change.”

– Prof. Isaac S. Kosgey, MBS, Vice Chancellor, Moi University.
