Seattle, USA –  TomorrowNow.org, in collaboration with our private sector partner Tomorrow.io, had the privilege of visiting the Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle, USA, for an insightful lunch-and-learn session.

The meeting was an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas about enhancing investments in next-generation weather services, with a focus on scaling impact for smallholder farmers across Africa.

Our teams were eager to share insights from our ongoing efforts to provide 4.8 million smallholder farmers in Kenya with actionable weather data through our partnership with the Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO).

The discussion at the Gates Foundation revolved around three critical themes:

The Urgency of Building Climate Resilience

We highlighted the pressing need to enhance climate resilience for 100 million Africans by 2030. This ambitious goal underscores the vital role that innovative strategies and technologies play in helping farmers adapt to a rapidly changing climate.

With weather patterns becoming increasingly unpredictable, effective resilience measures are essential to safeguard food security across the continent.

Enhancing Agricultural Productivity

One of the key pain points discussed was the need for farmer-facing organizations to access analysis-ready weather data. The good news is that partnerships and technology are already in place to advance decision support tools that benefit both stakeholders and end-user farmers.

Tomorrow.io’s cutting-edge weather intelligence is a prime example of how accurate, localized weather data can significantly boost agricultural productivity. By empowering farmers with timely information, they can make informed decisions that optimize their farming practices.

Scalable and Sustainable Solutions

The conversation also emphasized the importance of developing scalable and sustainable solutions tailored to the unique needs of smallholder farmers.

By focusing on practical and accessible innovations, we aim to help farmers overcome challenges and build more resilient agricultural systems. This approach is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of weather technology reach those who need it most.

We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this critical conversation and collaborate with esteemed partners in our shared mission to empower African farmers and strengthen agricultural resilience across the continent.
